Keren Kaufman

“I wanted to create wearable statements for peace.”

Dressed for Peace began the day Keren Kaufman left a Berlin swimming pool and noticed a stranger's T-shirt spelling the same word three ways, Peace, Salam, Shalom, and could not stop thinking about it. Not long after, in the summer of 2024, she turned the idea into a small, woman-led label that prints peace onto everyday organic cotton tees and sweatshirts, made mostly to order so little goes unworn, with some pieces embroidered locally in Neukölln. The message stays addressed to everyone, tied to no country and no side.

I have three questions for you, and something in return.

Three questions.

Dressed for Peace Clothing · Berlin, Germany

One shirt, three words for peace

Dressed for Peace is a Berlin label that prints peace onto everyday clothing, organic cotton tees and sweatshirts carrying messages like Peace Begins With Us. Founder Keren Kaufman started it in the summer of 2024 and makes most pieces to order, so little goes to waste.

It was the summer of 2024. Keren Kaufman was leaving a swimming pool in Berlin when she noticed a young woman in a black T-shirt that spelled one word three ways: Peace in English, Salam in Arabic, Shalom in Hebrew. She left thinking about it. Not long after, there was a label.

The idea is small and stubborn. Put the intention into getting dressed. A peace message on a plain organic cotton tee is not a manifesto, but it travels: to the tram, the office, the queue for coffee. Someone reads it. That is the whole design.

Made close, made to order

The clothes stay deliberately modest in scale. Most are printed to order or in very small runs, so little is made that no one wears. The graphics are the point, drawn plain and legible: Peace Begins With Us, I Heart Peace reworked from the old I Love New York badge, Peace is Possible. One long-sleeve is embroidered by hand a few streets from the studio, in Neukölln, by a local maker.

Peace is Possible, embroidered by hand on organic cotton in Neukölln.

No flags, no sides

The messaging holds one line and keeps to it: peace, addressed to everyone, tied to no country and no side. A shopper who wants to can send ten percent of a purchase to peace-building groups. The rest is just a shirt, which is the point. It gets bought, it gets worn, and the word does the quiet work.

Everyday clothes, worn as though the word matters.
