Rosanna Rothenberger

Frankfurt · Germany

Rosanna Rothenberger

“I want to turn an "ugh, I hate rose scents" into an "oh, I actually like this".”

She has worn almost nothing but rose since she began wearing perfume, and she fixed the rose as the subject of her own line before anything else was settled. Three years on, there is still one perfume, rose douce, an extrait de parfum at 30 per cent fragrance oil with natural Damask rose oil in the heart. Behind it sit years in the fragrance industry alongside perfumers who taught her to pay attention to smell, a village in Swabia she left at fifteen for a school year in Texas, and a cousin who brought her back to painting and museum visits, where the concept took shape.

I have three questions for you, and something in return.

Three questions.

NASRIN fragrances Rituals · Frankfurt, Germany

Brand Portrait

Rosanna Rothenberger builds every NASRIN fragrance around a single anchor — Damascus rose oil. Composed with perfumer Hélène Vonesch near Frankfurt and enriched with neuroscience-informed scent molecules, each extrait de parfum doubles as a sensory ritual for the wearer.

Rosanna Rothenberger, on NASRIN fragrances

Nasrin Fragrances first crossed my path through a single line: “connecting souls through scents.” The words stayed with me, so I got in touch with founder Rosanna Rothenberger to understand what kind of perfume sits behind a statement like that.

As we spoke, it became clear that she doesn’t see fragrance as a finishing touch before leaving the house, but as a small ritual that brings you back to yourself. Everything she shared – from the rose at the heart of each scent to the story of Nasrin, the Afghan woman the brand is named after – carried the same intention: beauty that comes with depth and responsibility.

Rosanna has years of experience working in various aspects of the perfume industry. And that clearly shows in her brand. As we talked, Rosanna kept circling back to one flower: the rose. Not as something romantic in a cliché way, but as a symbol with weight and history. She told me about Nasrin, an Afghan war survivor and young mother whose name the brand carries – and you could feel how seriously she takes the responsibility that comes with that choice. Each bottle, in her mind, has to hold both beauty and a story of resilience.

Behind the scenes, Rosanna works with a careful blend of natural and essential oils, selected synthetics and upcycled ingredients, produced in Europe.

What really struck me, though, was how intentionally she designs the experience around the perfume. Each fragrance comes with a suggested ritual or playlist so that spraying it becomes a small ceremony rather than a rushed last step before leaving the house. And baked into every bottle is a concrete act of giving: a portion of each sale goes to Women for Women International and directly to Nasrin and her community, supporting women rebuilding their lives after war and crisis.
