“The choices that we have in life are fewer than you think.”
3quarters began in Athens in 2015 on two conditions that Garyfalia Pitsaki and her brother John Pitsakis set themselves: the work had to be sustainable, and it had to be local. Back in the city after years abroad, she in the Netherlands and he in the UK, they found their material in synthetic waste they walked past daily without seeing. First came balcony awnings. Today it is ferry life rafts taken out of service, fabric that, as John puts it, can only become bags. Neither came from fashion. Garyfalia does most of the designs and John runs production and strategy. She trained as an architect, and her own bio lists degrees from NTUA in Athens and TU Delft.
