The names in the catalogue
LENAE is a London jewellery label founded by Lena Wro in 2024. Its earrings, necklaces and cuffs pair freshwater pearls and mother-of-pearl with rhodium-plated sterling silver or 14-carat gold vermeil. Irregular baroque pearls run through the collection.
Most pieces in the LENAE catalogue have a woman's name. There are Patsey, Brigitte, Josette, Miecia. One pair is called Serafina, after Lena Wro's great-grandmother, who lived through the war and communist-era Poland. A curved line of silver holds one pearl at the ear; two more hang below on fine chains.
Where the shapes come from
Some of LENAE's freshwater pearls are baroque. They leave the mollusc lobed or rippled, and one never has quite the outline of the next. The stars, hearts and crosses begin differently. A carved nucleus is inserted by hand, then covered by the mollusc in layers of nacre over several months. The intended shape stays visible, but the surface grew like any other pearl's.
Outside, then London
LENAE photographs the pieces outdoors, on stone, sand, oleander petals and palm leaves. A Castaway shoot took the collection to Grand Cayman. Seen close up in direct light, the ridges and dips are easy to read.
The settings are rhodium-plated sterling silver or sterling silver under 14-carat gold, sealed with a clear coating. Each run is small, and the finishing happens by hand in London. The Jasmine cuffs weigh 21 to 22 grams, enough to require a British hallmark for their silver. Their names join Elia, Clio, Dana, Nova and Lena.
