Stephanie Höcker

“What started as curiosity became my mission: show what's possible with natural fibre from the region.”

intuism.crafts grew out of a single field: flax that Stephanie Höcker planted on her partner's family farm in Tirol in 2022, the first step toward linen clothes she could trace back to their making, place by place. Six years in the sportswear industry came before that decision, and she left it to work the land instead of selling someone else's collection with little to no values. Every piece since lists everywhere it passed through, from field to finished seam. She trained as a fashion designer in Bielefeld and now also researches natural materials at the University of Innsbruck.

I have three questions for you, and something in return.

Three questions.

Three harvests later

For Stephanie Höcker the label began with a field: flax planted on her partner's family farm in Patsch, pulled from the ground by hand.

Stephanie Höcker came from several jobs in the sportswear industry to Patsch through Maximilian Greier, her partner, whom she met at a village pilgrimage. His family's Gschlösslerhof is about six hectares, four generations in one house: potatoes, grain, vegetables, dairy. In 2022 she planted 400 square metres of flax there; the first Brechfest, a community day for breaking the flax, followed in February 2023. Out of the field grew two tracks: leinup.austria, seasonal workshops on growing and working flax, and intuism., the clothing side. The first full collection arrived in autumn 2024.

There is no ready-made path, you just have to do it.

Leinenhemd Handweber, a linen shirt by intuism.crafts

One shirt, six places

Each garment has its own page listing all the places of its making. For the ‘Leinenhemd Handweber’ the trail runs like this: flax grown and retted in France, yarn spun in Poland, cloth woven at Vieböck in the Mühlviertel, a house weaving since 1832, the hand-woven chest-pocket fabric from Martin Stern in the Stubaital, sewing at Textilmanufaktur Seifert in Eibenstock, buttons from a factory near the Chiemsee. That is just one shirt. The first four styles were sewn in Germany in small runs and are still partly in stock; the newer pieces are sewn to order in the atelier on the farm and take two to four weeks. Some exist only once. The short-sleeved lace shirt is cut from old-stock lace so scarce that no two shirts are alike, and the Spinning Girl Top in the Edition Regina Knoflach is one of a kind.

Everything is sold directly: online, or at the farm by appointment.
