“I wanted to create the perfect velvet sock—then the collection grew from there.”

The label stays with one fabric. Velvet runs through the socks it started with and through the tops, trousers, bodysuits and underwear that followed, with lace and mesh where velvet will not go. Simone Wild trained first in tailoring, then in fashion design, and worked on the buying side before founding the label in 2017. She designs from a studio in a historic building in Stuttgart West, open by appointment, and more than forty shops in fourteen countries now carry the collection, about half of them in Japan.

The velvet, and where it stops

It began with velvet socks. Tops, trousers, bodysuits and underwear now come from the same velvet, designed by Simone Wild in Stuttgart and sewn in Germany, most of it at a workshop run by women.

The velvet is 90 per cent polyester and 10 per cent elastane, and it goes almost everywhere. Knee socks, a raglan sweater, wide-leg trousers, bodysuits, a pouch. Where it stops, lace and mesh take over, in a lace tee and a pair of mesh ankle socks.

Who sews the collection

Since 2022 most of the collection has been sewn at a workshop in Frankfurt, a social business run by women. The sewing team comes from many countries, and the work at the machine comes with language classes and with official recognition of the qualifications they already hold. Every product page carries MADE IN GERMANY. Simone Wild said in 2023 that the fabrics come mostly from Britain and the rest of Europe, and that she wants the distance between cloth and sewing machine kept short.

Care labels in Japanese

Wholesale into Japan runs through a showroom in Tokyo. The shop can be read in Japanese, and on the woven label the care instructions are in Japanese too, directly under MADE IN GERMANY.

What the offcuts became

Cutting leaves shapes behind that nothing else uses. In 2022 Haus Otto, a design studio in Stuttgart, took those shapes, covered them in velvet and screwed them to the wall as a set of soft hooks called Hold On. Fifty were made, in four colours, and the velvet covers were sewn in Germany at a social business too.
