Justine Nessi trained as an interior architect in Paris and worked there for about ten years, showing paintings in galleries from 2011, before she retrained in fine leather craft in Italy. In the middle of the last decade she opened her own atelier in Munich. Anna Eham arrived from Vienna, where she had trained as a Feintäschnerin, a maker of fine leather goods, and came to the studio for an internship that was part of that training. There are thirty-three years between them. In 2022 the two of them started a label of their own together and named it ANJU, from Anna and Justine.

Every design in the studio carries a single credit. The WALLET is Justine's, the IMAI is Anna's, and both are sewn now by the same hands. It reads as a small piece of housekeeping until you know that one of them has gone. The standing collection is Italian leather throughout, smooth, suede and cowhide, and any of it can be adjusted on request. Alongside the collection, the studio takes commissions for hospitality and design clients.

It was Justine's idea, and it begins where most bags end. Each piece is reworked from a reclaimed secondhand bag, some of them in vintage crocodile and lizard, and each is numbered so that it exists exactly once.

This year Justine stepped away and left ANJU to Anna, and went back to drawing and painting. She kept twelve objects she had made, one for every year she spent in leather. Anna runs it alone now, in the same studio off Türkenstraße, and nothing is cut until an order names the leather and the colour.
