“In France we went to markets and fairs constantly. We love decoration and everything to do with lighting. We always liked antique lamps and we thought we could bring them back, with a more contemporary touch.”
Alfama Chic is a lighting brand with no employees but a couple who assemble and wire every lamp themselves. Benjamin is French, Catarina Portuguese; they met in Paris, and spent more than two decades in France, between Paris and Lyon, before they moved to Lisbon in 2022. Her career was in international trade and export, but her first passion was always interior decoration, and she had already learned to restore old glass from friends in Portugal. Benjamin is the engineer of the pair: from a family of designers and architects, he came to it through mechanical drawing, and today models every base in CAD and prints a prototype before any stone is cut.
