Mud started with a single board and no training: João Baptista taught himself to build a fully working bicycle out of wood, and that bicycle became the model for everything the brand makes now, from cork lined bags to lamps and stools. He still builds in the family workshop at their home in Ovar, now with his wife Fátima and their son João Bonifácio, who designs and runs the shop in Porto.
