Artila Dokle trained in law before she let herself do the thing she had loved since childhood: painting, and making by hand. Burnes is where that became clothes. She named it for the Burrnesh, Albanian women who once took on the standing and freedoms reserved for men, and she reads that legacy now as a woman who chooses for herself rather than against anyone. The label stays close to home in every sense. Artila lives in London with her family, who help her run it, and the clothes are made in a small studio in Albania with people she is close to. The debut collection is her first, worked entirely in white and cut from deadstock so little goes to waste, and she is exacting about every piece that carries the name.
