5 questions for Eduardo Molina
Eduardo builds Eduard Teas five teas at a time, from a Berlin kitchen and, since this summer, a long-term pop-up at KaDeWe. He spends less of his time discovering teas than turning them down. Five questions on the discipline behind a deliberately small collection.
What's something about how you work that would surprise people?
People imagine I spend my days discovering amazing teas. In reality, I spend most of my time saying no. Every collection begins with hundreds of tastings, but the challenge isn't finding great teas. It's choosing just five that belong together. Each tea should make the others more meaningful.
What do you own that you'll never replace?
A map. Ever since I was a child, I've always had some kind of map to keep track of where I've been and dream about where to go next. My favourite toy growing up was an atlas. The format has changed over the years, but the idea remains the same: there's always another place waiting to be discovered.

What's something you do that doesn't make business sense?
We never work with a producer until I've visited their tea garden in person. I've tasted incredible teas that could have become part of a collection, but tasting isn't enough. I need to understand the place, meet the people, and experience how they work before deciding if it's the right fit.
What's the view from where you work?
This is the view from my kitchen in Berlin, overlooking the quiet courtyard of our building. It has a way of transporting me out of the city.

What are you still trying to get right?
There are still countless details to improve, but the most important one is building a direct relationship with our customers. I want to understand what truly resonates with them, what they enjoy about our teas, and where we can do better. The conversation shouldn't end once they open the bag.
